No, HIPPA will still protect your rights even with all of the files available electronically. Just like when they were on paper, a doctor will need explicit permission to view your chart on the electronic system. There are specific passwords and codes that allow doctors to see your information on those sites, and if the doctor isn’t YOUR doctor then they aren’t going to be able to see or add anything to those files. No random doctor can pull up any patient they want and read their file, any more than they can with all of the files on paper.

I want my privacy !! I want access only with my permission, and only for a short number of years.
I do not want access outside the insurance company or the city where I live.
In 1991 I was hurt on the job.
To apply for Workers’ Comp (to pay for my medical & compensate for my not being able to work)
I was required to sign papers saying ALL past medical & mental health records regarding ALL PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE projection & anticipated health.
The judge allowed to have reports read in court of when I was 3 years old. On that basis, I was denied both Workers Comp and SSI….and I still cannot work an 8 hour day.
